Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens

These are a few of my favorite things.

This morning as I was taking a shower and *gasp* not washing my hair, I was reminded of one of my favorite hair products.    That’s right people, now you know my dirty little secret.  I don’t wash my hair every day AND I have a shopping addiction. AND….oh nevermind, there are too many things to admit 🙂

Back to the favorite thing:  Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray.

Why do I love this product?  For starters, it saves me so much time on most  mornings when I don’t wake up at 6 am.  (If you just heard uncontrollable laughter near you, that means my husband is close by and is reading this post.  He’s laughing uncontrollably because only he knows the truth about what time I roll out of bed.) It could be that I work full-time, I’m a mom and I like my sleep or maybe it’s just because I’m lazy.  I don’t always want to wash, dry and fix my hair EVERY single morning.  Frankly, I just don’t have time or energy for that.  I want it to look decent every day, I just don’t want to work so hard.  I’ve never been able to go a single day without washing and drying my hair because though I have a lot of hair and it’s pretty fine.  Pretty fine mess.  It gets really greasy and yucky in just one day.  There’s something about greasy hair.  EW.  I’ll stop before I puke.

Because my hair is not thick nor does it have natural volume, it needs a little help.  Basically, given the chance, my hair would rather just lay really flat on the top of my head and try its hand at volume in another life.  I know what you might be thinking, “Why not get one of those über cute, super short haircuts that when cut properly gives the effect of volume without even trying?”  My daughter has that super cute haircut.   And even though she NEVER fixes it, save for the days that my husband sprays a detangler in her hair to tame the back, it’s pretty much wash and go.  For some reason, maybe it’s age – that doesn’t work out the same way for me.  Short hair has to be fixed, messed with, which means the time I was supposed to gain from cutting my hair short has now been lost.  Plus, I learned my short hair lesson this summer.  I thought I would die from heat exhaustion this summer and it was only July, so I cut my hair off  thinking I would feel at least 10 degrees cooler.   My other dirty secret – my long hair and/or any material on the back of my neck and sun and heat = sweat.  I’ll stop now.  AND, as if I needed another reason not to have short hair, it only takes one person to comment, “Oh cute.  Matching mother-daughter haircuts.” And it’s over.

Enter surf spray – Sexy, salty, sun-dried, windswept styles – whenever, wherever.  For anyone; excellent for wavy types and surfers with winter blues; adds body to fine hair.  That’s what the product promises.  My hair isn’t really any of those things, but does a look like it has a little texture or maybe a little “slept-in”.    But I guess “slept-in” didn’t make the marketing cut.  Besides who would they market that to? College students that don’t really care and are just going to put on a baseball cap when they roll out of bed?

Anyway, it’s perfect for me.  It’s not sticky or leaves my hair stiff.  It gives my hair just enough coarseness and tangle and best of all, it’s not all greasy day two.  Which is really the key point to all of this.

Would I recommend this product for everyone?  Sure.  I can almost guarantee that it works differently for different hair types, but beware of the results.  I won’t promise the same results I get.  Nor will I promise sexy, salty, sun-dried, windswept styles.  And don’t be fooled when they say it adds volume.  That does not mean it will  make your hair look like it double in size – you should get extensions for that.  Nor should you get rid of that fine comb you use to tease your hair unless of course you want to purchase a bumpit.  Since this fabulous product could be considered by some an investment, you can come over and borrow some of mine.  Try it before you buy it.  I wish I could always do that.

PS. Bumble & Bumble has no idea who I am.  Though I’m sure once they read this post, they will send me a year’s supply of Surf Spray so I can further the cause of having great hair without having to wash it everyday.  So far, this hasn’t happened yet.  If it does, I will be happy to share the product with you.
