Repost from Pioneer Woman: Rice

Please note this a repost from Pioneer Woman.  I thought about adding my own clever content.   That’s it.  I just thought about it.  I didn’t actually add any clever content.  What you see below was written by someone else 🙂  I will be immediately checking out FreeRice.com.  “Feeds your brain and the world.”

I feel it is my global, grammatical, and terminological (huh?) duty to share this site once a year. I still love it.

If you need to rattle the vocabulary section of your brain, run, don’t walk, to FreeRice.com.

After I started having Word Nerd quizzes here, several folks let me know about the website, which I’d never heard of before. Since then, I’ve visited several times. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted…but only because I don’t have the time.

Here’s the kicker.

You visit the site and take the vocabulary quiz; it’s a cinch to jump in and get started—you don’t have to sign up or register or anything. And for ever answer you get right, FreeRice donates ten grains of rice to the World Food Programme.

The first question usually starts out on the easy side. Even I could answer this one.

And look! When the next question pops up, so does a bowl, where you can see how many grains of rice have been donated as a result of your correct answers.

And let me tell you…there’s something about the whole thing that makes you just want to keep on going.

And guess what? You play however long you want.

Aside from vocabulary, FreeRice also has geography and foreign language quizzes—they always start out pretty basic, but eventually make your brain pound inside your head.

And the really fun part is, you can set one of the options to remember all of the rice your answers have donated from all of your visits.

Give it a try sometime today! It feeds your brain AND the world.

Few things are better than that.
