I did it. I waited in line for an Apple product. It was not my finest moment, but it wasn’t the worst either. I didn’t camp out for a week. I didn’t pay someone two hundred dollars for their spot in line. Although if I had camped out, I would now have an extra $200. Darn.
I showed up Saturday at 11 am and waited an hour until an employee made the announcement that the store was sold out. An hour of my life I will never get back. It was annoying. Not just because I wasted an hour, but because I walked away empty-handed. That was definitely the low point. Stupid popular product. Why am I so caught up in this craze? Good marketing. I blame good marketing and pretty products. Always gets me.
The high point – I pulled out my camera to “document” my waiting for Apple. A girl in front of me asked me what magazine I was shooting for. I answered, oh no, these are just personal shots. She leans over and says with a smile, “You can’t say which magazine, right?” Oh yes, that’s right. I’m a high-profile photog. That made me feel better. Someone thinks I have an 18-year-old soccer player, sure, so long as you think I’m a freelance photographer.
