Soccer Fashion

I’m never more brutal when it comes to fashion than when I watch soccer.  Ok, maybe I’m just critical when it comes to any sports fashion.  I’m not sure why.  Maybe it’s because I’m going to spend so much time staring at the uniforms during the game that I would really like to be wowed by them.  I know, you would think it would be enough to wowed by the player’s skill.  What can I say, I’m easily distracted.  One second I’m amazed at how fast Donovan can run and the next second I’m thinking that the opposing goal keeper should have thought more closely when choosing his outfit.

I can’t help but notice the clothing, the shoes, etc. – I do it no matter what sport.

Some thoughts from watching the U.S. play Guadalupe during the Concacaf Gold Cup the other night.

Oh, I just realized that Mexico went with adidas.  Envy of all envies.  Sorry Nike, but you’re just not as cool as the three stripes when it comes to soccer.  It’s true.  I don’t know what it is, but no matter how hard you try, adidas will always win out in my book.

While we’re on the topic – Dear Nike, you’re not doing Bob Bradley any favors by giving him an ugly polo to wear to tonight’s game.  Seriously.

I won’t even get into the fact that he’s tucking the polo into some wind pants.  The least you can do is give the team some nicer sportswear.  What’s that?  You didn’t tell him to wear that polo that has two tones of blue and looks like it has a zipper from a certain angle?  Please stop giving him bad choices to pick from them.  I don’t think Gucci or Hugo Boss will be sponsoring the men’s team any time soon so it would be great if we could at least make others envious of our casual look.

Eric Wynalda, please change out that hideous tie.  You can be a super annoying announcer so the least you can do is wear a nice tie.

Jermaine Jones – I know I just met you, but I love your tats.  I know you’re not alone in this world of soccer and tats, but maybe it was your aggressive play and the tats that made me take notice tonight.  And, yes, tats are fashion in my book.

David Beckham – you and your wife can do no wrong.  Please never stop.

These two have nothing to do with the game I saw, but when I think of soccer and fashion, inevitably I think of the Beckham’s.
