Oh yes. I am totally obsessed with Pinterest. You might be wondering if I’ve been living under a rock since Pinterest is old news. I haven’t been living under a rock, I just resisted this popular movement. It’s my inner rebel. It’s my inner rebel and sometimes I live under rocks.
Initially, it sounded so much like other programs I was using to bookmark ideas, images, etc. I mean do I really need to add yet another thing I follow, am followed on or check every two seconds for updates? There are so many options out there that I didn’t want to end up wasting time on yet another social online something or other.
But I was wrong, so very wrong. I love me some Pinterest. And truly, it IS a better option than e-mailing myself a link to something that I thought was interesting but will never actually look at again. Not sure why I ever thought this method of cataloging thoughts would work – all it did was clog my inbox.
So if you love Pinterest – you know why you love it. Let me obsess for a moment. If you’re not on Pinterest, here are a couple of reasons I love it.
Visual Organization of Ideas or better yet, obsessions. – I am an insanely visual person. I think it’s why I like Apple products – they’re so visually appealing. Clean lines with a modern edge, pristine colors…I digress. When it comes to food, I cannot and will not buy a cookbook without pictures. If I can’t tell what it’s supposed to look like when it’s cooked, how do I know if I want to eat it? You’re already taking a risk by trying out a new recipe, why not have some sort of visual assurance. Hmmm, that looks good. Good enough to eat. Why yes, I think I will try a new recipe. With Pinterest, I can pin pictures of food that look appealing. They’re all right there – my own visual cookbook. Love it! And that’s just food, you can do this with literally any subject matter – ideas that inspire you, artwork, clothing, home ideas, places to go, people to see. All of it, nicely organized in one place. I never have to sift through twenty e-mails to find the picture of the flooring that I liked. It’s all there.
But wait there’s more…
Direct link to site – not only are all the pictures there and organized, when you click on the picture it links you directly to the site. WHAT?!?! I no longer have to cut and paste the link or go to the home page of a blog to then try to find what I’m looking for. I think they posted that recipe two weeks ago? Wait maybe it was in May. May 15th. No? June, that’s right June. I give up. Not anymore! I just gained back a day trying to find the recipe for the tomatillo pork that my husband e-mailed me last year. Sigh.
And of course, the most appealing reason….
It’s just pretty. Ah, pretty – the real reason why I like things – aesthetically pleasing. Now you know my dark secret – I like pretty things. I don’t know what it is, but every time I log in, I feels like I’m on the Anthro website where everything is visually appealing. I also feel completely inspired. Inspired to cook, to make Lola some cool clothes or make myself a skirt. Or just enjoy what inspires others.
Seriously though, if you haven’t checked out Pinterest, do it now. Really. Right now. You’re life will never be the same. I promise. Ok, not really. If you’re shaking your head because Pinterest is old news, what can I say? Shame on you for keeping this a secret? If you tried to tell me about it….sorry. I can be a bit stubborn some times.
